Since December 1998 she has a Belgian boyfriend, Baron Bernulph von der Hellen (born about 1977), whom she also knows from the boarding school, and they live together in München. Julia-Katharina is the heir of her father and future head of the Ducal Family of Anhalt and she confirmed in 2002 in a talkshow on German television that is she gets married her husband will become Prince of Anhalt following the wedding. The family aims to return to Anhalt.
