The funeral of Princess Margarita von Baden

On 15 January 2013 sadly passed away Princess Margarita von Baden, aged 80, at her home in Farnham, England.

She was born at Salem Castle, Germany on 14 July 1932 as daughter of Margrave Berthold von Baden and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark.  She was the daughter of Margrave Berthold von Baden and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, a sister of the Duke of Edinburgh. In 1957 she married Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia (1928-2000), with whom she had a son, Nicholas, and a daughter, Katarina. The couple divorced in 1981. Princess Margarita is also survived by two granddaughters and a great-grandson.

A funeral service took place at the Serbian Orthodox Church St Sava in London on 24 January. Among the mourners in London were the daughter, son and granddaughters of the deceased, as well as her former son-in-law Sir Desmond de Silva, the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Princess Sarvath of Jordan and two of her daughters, Margrave Max and Margravinne Valerie von Baden, Prince Ludwig and Princess Marianne von Baden, Hereditary Prince Bernhard and Hereditary Princess Stephanie von Baden, Prince Leopold von Baden, Prince Michael von Baden, Prince Berthold von Baden, Princess Marie-Louise von Baden, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia and Prince Philip of Serbia.

Princess Margarita was buried at the margravely cemetery at Salem, Germany, after a short orthodox service in the late afternoon of 28 January 2013. The service was led by the Russian-Orthodox Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany. The coffin, covered with a flag with the arms of the House of Baden, was accompanied to the cemetery by singing Russian Orthodox nuns and guests with candles. A reception took place afterwards at the Garden Room of Salem Castle.

Among the about 150 guests were the brother of the deceased Margrave Max and Prince Ludwig, Hereditary Prince Bernhard and Hereditary Princess Stephanie von Baden with sons (see picture), Duke Friedrich and Duke Ferdinand (see picture) von Württemberg, Prince Rainer von Hessen, Prince Albrecht von Hohenzollern, Prince Andreas and Princess Luise zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Fürst Andreas zu Leiningen, Princess Elisabeth zu Ysenburg und Büdingen and Count Björn Bernadotte af Wisborg.
