Season’s Greetings

2020 has been an atypical year (as the Spanish media I follow keep on mentioning it). Royals have been working at home a lot, showed their offices, and outside often wore face masks, which looks awful on photos. We hardly had any nice royal events or big celebrations. National days were reduced or not celebrated at all. We have fortunately been surprised with a few pregnancies, babies, engagements and weddings, but unfortunately also with some deaths. I especially enjoyed the many photos of Prince Charles of Luxembourg, the creative celebrations of the national days in the Netherlands and Norway, and the 80th birthday of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, the tour of the King and Queen of Spain through Spain in the Summer, or the train ride of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge through Scotland, Wales and England.

How much I would like to see that the situation changes soon now people have started to be vaccinated, I am not quite convinced 2021 will be a much better year. Certainly nobody will announce huge celebrations already long before. But hopefully the royals will surprise us in 2021 and we at least will see tiaras and evening gowns again.

Personally this has been a strange year. I had to cancel my trip to Denmark in April (luckily got most of the money back). And as travelling to my opinion wasn’t a good idea (I don’t have a driver’s license anyway), I have been cycling a lot in the Summer. For the first time in my life I broke a bone, in the ring finger of my left hand, when falling with my bike in August. This Summer also the health of my father deteriorated, so I have tried to visit every few weeks by train (one hour normally) despite of Covid-19 and health fears. I am grateful that I will be able to celebrate Christmas with my mother, sister and a friend as as a family we’re just small enough to be three guests, and am certainly going to visit my father during these days.

And Prince Harry, oh well, the cat is still enjoying most of his time outside. He is not much of an indoor cat. But he regularly comes for food and likes to stroke his head against my hand or leg. Probably he will come in more when it gets colder. Recently he surprised me by jumping on the sofa next to me and make himself at home between the cushions for a while.

I wish you all Merry Christmas and a very happy and royal New Year 2021.
