Happiness at a Castell-Rüdenhausen wedding in Austria

After the civil wedding at the town hall of Rüdenhausen, Germany, on 29 December 2018, Fürst Otto zu Castell-Rüdenhausen and Sophia Mautner von Markhof celebrated their religious wedding at the former Augustinian Abbey Church in Waldhausen im Strudengau, Upper Austria. The bride wore an ivory silk dress trimmed with lace and an old lace veil, topped by a lovely tiara.

During the ecumenical service the choir and orchestra of the Wallfahrtskirche Mariahilf in Vienna performed mainly musical pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The service weas led by the parish priest, while the parish priest of Rüdenhausen, Martin Fromm, held a sermon.

Afterwards a reception, dinner and ball took place in the courtyard of the nearby Burg Clam, the residence of the family of the bride’s mother, the Counts von und zu Clam-Martinic.

Many guests came to celebrate with the princely couple. Among them members of the families Belgium, Castell-Castell, Faber-Castell, Habsburg, Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, Leiningen, Liechtenstein, Löwenstein, Oldenburg, Prussia, Reuss, Schönborn-Wiesentheid, Solms-Laubach and Ysenburg. Notable was the presence of Prince Amedeo of Belgium, Archduke of Austria-Este and his wife Elisabetta Maria, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, as the Belgian media got confirmed last week.

Early August there will be a traditional “Heimführung” at Rüdenhausen, in which the bride will officially be welcomed in her new hometown. The people of Rüdenhausen will then also be able to greet her personally.

The groom was born in 1985 as son of the late Fürst Johann Friedrich zu Castell-Rüdenhausen and his wife Countess Maria von Schönborn-Wiesentheid. The bride was born in 1989 as daughter of Theodor Ritter Mautner von Markhof and his wife Countess Marie-Antoinette von und zu Clam-Martinic.
