My Articles

I have written quite a few articles for my blog and my website, as well as also for my employer dana press photo a/s. Apart from that several magazines and newspapers have published articles or photos. Some are about history, but most of them deal with royal weddings, of which I attended quite a lot. Sorry for not making them more readable, but that is of course a copyright issue. Photos in the articles are not always mine.

Magazines

My article about royal cards and mail received by royalty watchers appeared in the Dutch magazine De Oranjes in December 2023.

In November 2023 my article about the wedding of Infanta Maria Francisca de Bragança, Duchess of Coimbra, and Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins on 7 October 2023 in Mafra, Portugal appeared in the Dutch magazine Royalty.

“An Albanian Royal Wedding … with many Royal Guests” in the Swedish magazine Royalty Digest Quarterly, 4/2016, pagina 1-4. Probably my most memorable trip for a royal wedding, in a country that I found very special. The photos are mine.

“A Day Full of Joy for the Dutch Royal Family. The Wedding of Prince Jaime of Bourbon-Parma and Viktória Cservenyák” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 16.5, Issue XCV, October 2013, pages 18-21. Finally another royal wedding close to home. Nearly the whole Dutch royal family attended, and the bride later on turned out to be pregnant.

“A Royal Wedding in Sunny Luxembourg. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume Marries Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 15.6, Issue XC, December 2012, pages 19-22. Luxembourg was my second wedding in just over a week, but much more grand.

“A Romantic Wedding to a Dutchman for Duchess Rixa of Oldenburg” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 15.5, Issue LXXXIX, October 2012, pages 10-11. Together with a friend I travelled to Hamburg for this not too big wedding.

“Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands (1911-2004). A long and interesting life” in the Swedish magazine Royalty Digest Quarterly, 4/2011, pages 55-57, about the life of the grandfather of the present king of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander.

“Wedding Bells in Brussels. The Duke of Parma Weds Ms. Annemarie Gualthérie van Weezel” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 13.5, Issue LXXVII, October 2010, pages 19-22. A really nice wedding with lots of royal guests.

The Royal “Traumhochzeit” in Coburg” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 12.3, Issue LXIX, June 2009, pages 18-23. Together with a small group of friends we enjoyed ourselves a few days in and around Coburg.

Written in cooperation with Arturo E. Beéche and Eric Van de Vloet. The wedding took place in Belgium.

“The Unusual Life of Princess Marianne of the Netherlands” in the Swedish magazine Royalty Digest Quarterly, 4/2008, pages 7-11. An interesting princess and it was nice to be able to do some research on her in my bookcase.

“A Sunny Fairytale Wedding in Burgsteinfurt” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 10.4, Issue LVIII, August 2007, pages 38-39. A nice wedding not too far from home, also some of the pictures are mine.

I spent a few lovely days with friends in and around Bückeburg for this wedding, and arrived just in time for the civil marriage two days before the one in church. The couple has divorced since.

“A Sunny Fairy-Tale Wedding. Prince Philipp of Hesse Marries Ms. Laetitia Bechtolf. Schloß Panker, Holstein, 10 June 2006” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 9.3, Issue LI, June 2006, pages 3-5. The Wet Fairy Tale Wedding of H.R.H. Prince Manuel of Bavaria & H.S.H. Princess Anna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 8.4, Issue XLVI, August 2005, page 19. The reason why I spent part of my summer vacation that year in Sweden. The weather really could have been better, the Swedish countryside was lovely.

“The Wedding of Countess Feodora Rosenborg and Mr. Eric Patte” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 7.4, Issue XL, August 2004, pages 18-19. A report of my somewhat crazy one-day trip to a royal wedding in Copenhagen. The marriage unfortunately only lasted for about one year.

“The Death of Princess Juliana of the Netherlands” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Volume 7.2, Issue XXXVIII, April 2004, pages 3-8. I wrote the obituary of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands for the magazine after her death in March 2004.

“Finland: Imperial and Royal Surprise” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Issue XXXV, October 2003, pages 21-24. After having travelled to Finland in the summer, I wrote this article about royal sightseeing in Finland. Also the pictures were mine.

“A Royal Wedding in Kronberg” in the American magazine European Royal History Journal, Issue XXXIII, June 2003, pages 16-18. It is a report about the wedding of Hereditary Prince Heinrich Donatus von Hessen and Countess Floria-Franziska von Faber-Castell in May 2003. I also delivered some pictures.

“Ze zijn er nog, de ongehuwde prinsessen” in the Dutch magazine Vorsten Royale, April 2001, pages 14-18. This was of course about the princesses in the world that were still unmarried.

“De Koninklijke digitale snelweg” in the Dutch magazine Vorsten Royale, February 2001, pages 34-35. I wrote about the official royal website and even managed to receive an answer from Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia.

“De creatie van een nieuwe koningin” in the Dutch magazine Vorsten Royale, September 2000, pages 36-38. The article was about the new Belgian princess Mathilde and her background.

From June 2000 to June 2001 I wrote a monthly column in the Dutch royal magazine Vorsten Royale. I wrote about my royal hobby, royal travelling and of course themes that were interesting at the time. Royal bachelors, living together, travelling, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, and a cute story about the daughter of my Finnish friend Kaija who at the time was a huge fan of Princess Mathilde.

Online articles

Between August 2001 and August 2003 I wrote monthly articles for an online royal magazine called “Royal Watch“, a magazine for royal watchers by royal watchers. I kept a copy of most of them, but probably not all.

I wrote “Exhibition Review: Chapeaux! Hats of Queen Beatrix” on request of the blog Royal Hats after my visit to the exhibition “Chapeaux! De Hoeden van Koningin Beatrix” at Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn.

Other work

The Belgian newspaper “Het Laatste Nieuws” came across my photo of Reza Pahlavi at the wedding of Prince Laurent and Princess Claire of Belgium and used it for an article in connection with the birth of Princess Louise, and her godparents, on 10 February 2004.

The Dutch royal magazine “Vorsten Royale” asked me to write part of the texts for their Agenda 2002.
